The only Tim Hortons in newly-minted Olympic gold medalist Derek Drouin’s Southwestern Ontario hometown is dishing out a special doughnut in the high jumper’s honour. The 26-year-old Corunna native soared in Tuesday night’s high jump final, jumping a perfect six-for-six en route to the top of the podium. Some people set off fireworks and cheered in honour of their hometown hero, while others decided to bake. It was in Corunna, just south of Sarnia, that Drouin learned high jumping after his kindergarten teacher introduced the sport to the class. But, Kuzyk said, they will also make sure Drouin gets a taste of the treat in his honour.
