Online identities fetch £820 on dark web

An individual’s extensive online identity, including bank details, dating profiles, shopping accounts and passport information, can be bought for only £820 on the dark web. Scores of internet sites hidden to everyday users trade stolen personal data for as little as £2.50 an item. Analysis of the three most popular dark web markets — Dream, Point and Wall Street Market — found a large amount of sensitive data on sale for low prices. Security researchers at the private network company TopVPN found that bank details fetched about £168, while Paypal logins went for £280. These are the most commonly listed items on the dark web and sale prices tend to be about 10 per cent of the available credit balance, research found.
