NEW YORK — The last time most Canadians saw Eugenie Bouchard at the U.S. Open, she looked a bit like a boxer headed into the ring. A year later, Bouchard and the USTA are in the ring exchanging blows, with Bouchard’s attorney, Benedict Morelli, telling the SportsBusiness Journal that the USTA’s hardball tactics have stalled talks toward a settlement in the lawsuit. But still, it’s never a good idea to bet against Williams, who will play her first-round match Tuesday against Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova, a two-time major semifinalist. Pospisil is a really good guy who could use a break and Canadian tennis fans will be hoping he can make the most of it Monday. The French Open is the only one of the four Grand Slam tournaments now without one, but plans are in the works.
