The Hutterian Safety Council says a disproportionate number of COVID-19 cases in Manitoba are on Hutterite colonies, after public health officials announced more cases of the disease in communal groups Monday. More than a third of all active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba are in tight-knit communities, including Hutterite colonies, Dr. Brent Roussin, the province's chief public health officer, said Monday. Communal-group cases currently account for 148 of the province's 395 active cases, though Roussin did not specify how many are on Hutterite colonies. Dr. Brent Roussin explains that many recent COVID-19 cases in Manitoba are linked to clusters or communal living communities, including Hutterite communities. COVID-19 cases in personal care homes will look different than cases a meat packing facilities or in Hutterite colonies, she said.
