Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital has declared an outbreak of COVID-19, with four cases of the virus identified in a surgical unit in the acute care section of the Bayview Avenue campus. Sunnybrook spokesperson Sybil Millar told the Star the outbreak was declared Sunday after the first positive test came in on Friday during routine surveillance testing. In total, four patients tested positive and two remain at Sunnybrook, according to a news release issued by the hospital Monday. With the declaration of an outbreak, the affected unit has been closed to admissions and visitors are not allowed. The Sunnybrook outbreak comes at a time when the rolling seven-day average for new infections of COVID-19 in the GTA is now greater than that for all other regions of the province.
