One person has died following a car crash in Southland. One person died at the scene of a crash on State Highway 6 near Athol in Southland, about 5pm on Saturday, while four others were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Ambulances carried one patient with serious injuries, two with moderate injuries and one with minor injuries. A police spokeswoman said the serious crash unit had been called to both sites and diversions were in place.
