A ute and a van were involved in the crash on SH1 (Tīrau Rd) near Hydro Rd, police said. One person is dead and another seriously injured after an early morning crash in Cambridge. The crash happened on State Highway 1 (Tīrau Rd) near the intersection with Hydro Rd about 6.20am on Saturday, a police spokesperson said. Part of the highway was closed while the Serious Crash Unit worked at the scene, but it reopened just before 11am. "There are a number of events on in the region today, including a rowing regatta at Lake Karapiro," a Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency statement said.
