Not in his Great Depression-era youth, maintaining fleets for grocery stores in the North Omaha neighborhood where he grew up. “His father was extremely private,” said Joe Teplitsky of Gig Harbor, Washington, Sam’s son. After his graduation, he landed a job as a mechanic for a local Hinky Dinky grocery in North Omaha. “When he got home, he pulled that Jeep up and parked it in the backyard,” Joe Teplitsky said. “He thought he was going to live to be 105,” Joe Teplitsky said.
