As the leading units in the Oktoberfest Resident’s Parade began to wind their way through Spanish Springs, spectators lining both sides of Main Street applauded and rose for the American flag, presented by veteran’s groups. With the staccato beat of drums, the thumping oompah of tubas and strains of accordion music echoing off the walls of buildings surrounding the square, excitement surged among the crowd. Roy and Charlotte Snyder, of the Village of Sanibel, were the first to stake out a spot on the square at 12:30 p.m. “We’re here for the music,” Charlotte said. “We had breakfast down in Fenney this morning and thought we’d just come on up to get a good spot instead of going home first.” Although residents only began lining up their chairs Tuesday afternoon to ensure a good view, the event started coming together in August.
