Officials wary even as Fani may skip Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), landfall over Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is ruled out, although the possibility of landfall in Odisha is under continuous watch. S Balachandran, director, Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai, said, "Fani is expected to move within 300 kms of the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts, after which it will move North-Northwest wards." This is expected to cause low to moderate rainfall and gusty winds along the Tamil Nadu coast. Owing to rough seas, fishermen in the region have been advised not to venture out until May 2, and those in high seas have been asked to return, Balachandran said. Fearsome FaniNDRF and Coast Guard have been put on high alert and are at the disposal of state government authorities.
