Off-the-mark Terps fall at Penn State, 70-64

Against the Boilermakers, the Terps blew a 12-point lead and didn’t convert a field goal over the final 7:37. Maryland was never able to make it a one-possession game in the second half and struggled to contain forward Lamar Stevens, who led Penn State (13-12, 5-7) with 25 points. The second half opened in ugly fashion, too, with Huerter committing a turnover and Cowan committing a foul within the first 24 seconds. Maryland’s first field goal of the second half didn’t come until nearly seven minutes in, when reserve forward L.G. With Maryland centers Damonte Dodd and Michal Cekovsky both sitting for long stretches in the second half because of foul trouble, Penn State took control of the interior behind bruising forward Mike Watkins.
