Environment Southland had been made aware of the distinct odour and were investigating, but had yet to track down the source. Compliance manager Simon Mapp said: "we're aware of the odour being reported around Invercargill and have staff investigating but haven't been able to track down the source. Invercargill City Council interim team leader communications services Hannah McLeod said the smell was not coming from any council operations.
