Occasional rain to bring some light relief to CanterburyMetService MetService National Forecast. After a 46-day dry spell in Christchurch - a new official record - a cold front bringing occasional rain will be a welcome relief for some, albeit only brief. By Monday evening and into Tuesday, temperatures should drop from Canterbury to the Marlborough border, bringing rain and some relief to soil surfaces in those areas. TOM LEE/STUFF A front over the south of the South Island is expected to move slowly northwards during the day, bringing thunderstorms. METSERVICE The rain forecast stems from a cold front which is glancing the southern part of the South Island, as seen here in a MetService rain radar image taken at 1:20pm on Monday.
