They are still building but next week will be a more realistic judge of their improvement. O'Mahony delivered under pressure, doing what he does best, winning turnovers, thieving a couple of lineouts and, in Sexton's injury-enforced absence, demonstrating the type of leadership required. Ireland were physically dominant from the start, imperious in the scrum and winning collisions which allowed them to dictate the game on the front foot. You sensed Ireland remain uncertain; Porter won two scrum penalties and Peter O'Mahony stole a lineout but there were handling errors and poor decisions, too. Their dominance, exerted through the scrum, did allow the excellent Quinn Roux to pounce and give Ireland some breathing space.
