Number of partridges, other birds have dropped by 80 percent: report

Germany and Europe overall have seen a "dramatic" drop in bird populations since 1990, largely due to farming practices, according to new government figures. The number of lapwings - also known as peewits - shrank by 80 percent between 1990 and 2013, according to the figures. The number of partridges dropped by 84 percent between 1990 and 2015. One-third of all bird types in Germany have had “significant population reductions” since the end of the 1990s. There are many reasons for the dwindling bird populations, including most importantly the loss of habitats and the declining number of insects.
