PUTRAJAYA: The assertion that 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) paid its debts using its own assets is untrue, says Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng. On the contrary, Lim said its debts were paid off by the government. Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) here, today, Lim said previous claims by the 1MDB that it had transferred all of its assets to the MoF for the purpose of loan repayment were baseless. "This is because, previously all of 1MDB's assets, at the start, belonged to the MoF. Do not forget that the government of Malaysia until today has paid close to RM7 billion (of 1MDB's debts) and we still have to pay another RM954 million this year," Lim said.
