Not everyone’s a fan of Jonathan Yeo’s portrait of King Charles – but to his relief the queen approves!

When artists are commissioned to paint a portrait of royalty they usually play it safe, depicting their subjects in realistic fashion with maybe a horse here or a dog there. But British artist Jonathan Yeo decided to do his own thing – and his portrait of King Charles, the first official one since the coronation, has caused a right royal stir. Some love it, praising the break from tradition and the bold use of colour. Others loathe it, saying Charles looks like he’s burning in hell or bathing in blood, that the red gives the impression the monarchy is going up in flames. The artist is a Satanist, an illuminati, a hack with no respect, they say.
