Growers assumed they had incurred a loss of around Tk50 to Tk60 lakh. The nor'wester lasted about 15 minutes and destroyed the properties in Birajnagar, Sreefulia, Jaumongol, Naohala, Murgib and Mohammadpur villages of the upazila, said sources. Locals said jack-fruit and Indian gooseberry growers suffered a greater loss while other seasonal fruit orchards were damaged as well. Shibpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Humayan Kabir said the upazila agriculture officer is calculating the damage sustained by growers and necessary support will be provided to them.
