Northeast Indian power ministers propose transmission line through Bangladesh

A power transmission line between Tripura and West Bengal through Bangladesh has been proposed, in a meeting held between the power ministers of northeast Indian states at Shillong, Meghalaya, from October 10-11. Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey informed reporters of the proposal at Tripura on Friday. If a line is erected via Bangladesh, the power transmission distance between Tripura and West Bengal would come down to 500km,” he added. However, this time it will be forwarded to India’s Central Government by the North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC),” he said. NERPC is a regional power committee which runs under the Central Electricity Authority of India’s Union Power Ministry.
