North Korea Fires Multiple Missiles Into Sea, South Korean Military Says

North Korea fired several missiles into the East Sea late Sunday evening in what may be a test of intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States, South Korean military officials said. They flew about 620 miles before falling into the sea off the North Korean coastline, multiple news outlets reported. The launch appeared to be a response to joint military drills conducted this month between South Korea and the U.S., according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency. Sunday’s launch, if confirmed to be a test of long-range ICBMs, would follow through on statements made by the North Korean leader earlier this year. In January, shortly after Kim pledged to test an ICBM, Trump tweeted “It won’t happen!” in reference to North Korea developing a missile capable of carrying a nuclear weapon to the U.S.
