North African Wheat Production Drops By 60%


Morocco, among other North African countries, is making massive increases in wheat imports to meet consumer demands. Rabat – Wheat production in North Africa is suffering due to recent regional droughts. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), wheat production has reduced by 60% in the region. Recent heat waves and dry weather conditions are straining on Morocco’s agricultural production. In 2018, Morocco imported 3.7 million tons of wheat, compared to 5.1 million tons in 2019.
