JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/ANN): Non-coronavirus patients are grappling with concerns that hospitals might refuse to treat them due to a recent surge of Covid-19 cases that has pushed the country’s healthcare system to the limit. All the hospitals she visited said they could not treat her mother, primarily because they were already full because of Covid-19. “Hospitals need to make space for Covid-19 patients in their emergency units, maybe that is why the non-Covid-19 patients, whether it is an emergency or not, are being neglected, ” Tri said. “What often happens is that hospitals reject [non-Covid-19 patients] because they have a small capacity and cannot treat more patients, ” Lia said. She did not immediately respond to the Post’s follow-up questions on hospitals that have refused to take in non-Covid-19 patients.
