KUALA LUMPUR (July 14): Housing and Local Government minister Zuraida Kamarudin has filed an application to strike out a defamation suit against her by former Cabinet member and PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Saifuddin had filed the suit in July last year over a statement by Zuraida that alleged he practised corruption. “The impugned words must be read in light of the then power struggle between PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his former deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali. Zuraida was known as a vociferous supporter of Azmin, while I am Anwar’s supporter,” he said in his suit. Saifuddin claimed the statement by Zuraida, who is also Ampang MP, was uploaded to a Facebook page called “Friends of Azmin Ali”, and was subsequently shared on her own Facebook page.
