Ravi Kumudesh, President of the Sri Lanka Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists (SLAGMLT) has stated that while decisions are being made around the world on the side effects of the Covishield vaccine, Sri Lanka is in a situation where no scientific evidence of vaccine complications can be derived. According to Kumudesh, this is because the people of Sri Lanka have been administered with only the first dose of the vaccine so far. With regard to the deaths that have occured in the country due to blood clots, the SLAGMLT is of the opinion that it is not possible to confirm whether they were caused by the vaccine. “The Ministry of Health does not have professionals with expertise in vaccination. Instead of appointing a microbiologist to the post of injector at the Medical Research Institute, the Ministry of Health should recruit a specialist with expertise and immediately begin national research on post-injection conditions,” he said.
