But there are no proper facilities in the country that can rehabilitate the surrendering militants – most of whom are young men and women – into the society, the Dhaka Tribune learnt from different sources. The campaign has received impressively positive responses: at least two dozens of young militants, who left home to join different radical outfits, have contacted police wishing to return to regular life. “Like many countries in the world, Bangladesh needs to develop a state-level programme specific to rehabilitating militants and radicalised people. Many countries have counselling system in their prisons. Their meetings with relatives are also strictly monitored and controlled, they told the Dhaka Tribune.
