Shyamal Kanti denies allegation of defaming Islam

Leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League, Jatia Party, Puja Udjapon Parishad and several business organisations staged demonstration in the area, demanding punishment of Shyamal Kanti while he was giving statement. On Monday, a judicial inquiry team from Dhaka started investigation into the incident of public humiliation of the school teacher. The witnesses include Class X student Rifat Hassan of the school, who complained against Shyamal to the school authorities of beating him up and defaming Islam. Yesterday the court recorded depositions of 12 people including Shyamal Kanti, Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdulla Al Masud and Bandar police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam. On August 7, police submitted the probe report to the HC saying that they have found out the public humiliation of Shyamal Kanti was an “unexpected situation” resulted from a rumour.
