No need to be overly critical: Bombay high court to censors on 'Udta Punjab' row

The court made the observation at a hearing on cuts the CBFC , widely referred to as 'censor board', was attempting to impose on the film 'Udta Punjab'. 'Udta Punjab' is a film about the rampant drug problem in Punjab. It defended the right of filmmakers to take critical lines, not just against places but also persons. The court will pass orders on the case on June 13, four days before the film's scheduled release. The court also took a shot at the censor board's attempt to sanitize films. "From every dialogue and scene of the film if reference to Punjab will have to be deleted then the crux of the film will be lost.
