A controversial program that has put police officers in certain Toronto high schools over the past decade should be discontinued, says a report by Toronto District School Board staff. That includes 15,500 students from schools with officers who completed surveys. In most cases, officers divide their duties between several neighbourhood schools and sometimes both boards. And because many cited negative impacts from the program and favoured such alternatives as more trained social workers and youth counsellors in schools, staff concluded the regular police presence should end.
