MANILA, Philippines — Not a single untoward incident was recorded in 467 detention facilities across the country during the New Year revelry, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said yesterday. BJMP chief Director Allan Iral lauded jail personnel for putting in place security measures. Prior to the start of the Yuletide season, Iral ordered BJMP regional directors to tighten security in jails to prevent escape attempts and riots. On Monday, he inspected the Quezon City Jail and Manila City Jail, two of the biggest detention facilities in the country, to check their operational readiness. Wardens were ordered to strictly observe guidelines and protocols during the holidays.
