SHAH ALAM: Fifteen-year-old Nivashini Sankaran has been part of the Kuala Lumpur Kun Seng Keng Lion and Dragon Dance association since she was 10. She was following in the footsteps of her brother who had been part of the internationally recognised lion dance troupe. The Kuala Lumpur chapter was founded in 2012 and the original Kun Seng Keng Lion Dance Group was founded nearly 30 years ago in Muar, Johor. “Back in the 1980s, it wasn’t easy to get permission to perform a lion dance. Now, performing a lion dance in public is not only allowed but has also received government support.”
