Patna, Feb. 20: Chief minister Nitish Kumar today asserted that Bihar would oppose moves being made in the name of developing the National Waterway-1 on the Ganga as it would affect perennial flow of the river. We want to protect the environment," the chief minister said. Nitish added that the Ganga would be clean only when its flow is continuous in its natural way. "Decommissioning of the Farakka barrage will help maintain the flow of the Ganga and stop its siltation. The chief minister pointed out that he had spelled out the disadvantages of the Farakka barrage to Modi last year while briefing him on the devastating floods in the state last year.
