Akshay Deshmane/HuffPost India The letter written by Nitin Gadkari, union minister for road transport and highways, to then environment minister Dr. Harshvardhan on 18 August 2018. The Supreme Court, Goel wrote, had “quashed a very important Office Memorandum dated 7 July 2017”. The memorandum, Goel claimed, had helped the real estate industry by removing red-tape and simplifying the “cumbersome environmental clearance process”. The decision to strike down this memorandum, Goel wrote, had come as a “rude shock” to the entire real estate sector.
