Nine fleeing Nigerian inmates arrested in Ghana


Nine inmates alleged to have broken jail have been arrested while fleeing to Ghana by the Ghanaian Police force at Ada Foah. Police report that at the time of arrest, Suspects were found with Ghanaian and Nigerian currency, personal belongings, passports, and ID cards. In an earlier report by The PUNCH, about 1,844 inmates were freed by gunmen who attacked the Nigerian Correctional Service, Owerri, Imo State on Monday, 5th April 2021. The Nigerian Immigration Service responded that it had beefed up security at the nation’s borders to aid the arrest of the inmates and suspects who might be planning to flee the country. The Nigerian Correction Service also said it would be seeking the help of INTERPOL to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
