Newborns, ICU patients safely evacuated from Menoufia hospital amid fire outbreak

CAIRO - 3 August 2024: 12 newborns in incubators and 10 intensive care unit patients were evacuated from Sadat Central Hospital in northern Egypt's Menoufia following a fire outbreak on Saturday. The newborns were transferred to Harpur Memorial Hospital, while the ICU cases were moved to Sadat Specialized Hospital. Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar ordered evacuating the entire hospital, ensuring patients were transferred to nearby facilities based on their medical needs. The minister delegated his deputy, Mohamed El-Tayeb, to oversee the evacuations and guarantee that patients receive necessary medical attention at their new locations. While the official cause of the fire remains undisclosed, a source cited by the Masrawy news website suggests that an electrical short circuit could be the likely trigger for the incident.
