Chief medical officer K. K. Soni denied the families' allegations that the babies died of dehydration and said they had been malnourished and underweight. Health officials claimed the babies, between 10 hours and two days old, were brought in critical condition to Jawahar Lal Nehru Hospital and had died between 1am and 6am today of septicaemia, hyperthermia and respiratory problems.
