New wildfires hit wine country near San Francisco

Residents of Oakmont Gardens assisted living home in Santa Rosa boarded brightly lit city buses overnight, some wearing dressing gowns and using walkers. Officials did not have an estimate of people under evacuation but Paul Lowenthal, Cal Fire spokesman, said more than 13,000 homes were threatened in Santa Rosa alone. Evacuations were also ordered in Shasta County as the Zogg Fire spread over 23 square miles. So far this year, more than 8,100 California wildfires have scorched 5,780 square miles, destroyed more than 7,000 buildings and killed 26 people.
