England's 33 worst coronavirus hotspots show explosion in cases in a week


Alarming Public Health England data shows 275 local authority areas have an infection rate of more than 10 per 100,000. Many areas have seen their rates double in just a week, with all the areas at the top of the list showing sharp rises. Knowsley has the highest rate in England, with 422 new cases recorded in the seven days to Friday. This is the equivalent of 279.7 cases per 100,000 people - up from 152.5 a week earlier.
