New pathway proves popular after construction delay

The new path passes the miniature railway base at the Esplanade through to the Manawatū River walkway. A new pathway from the Victoria Esplanade to the Manawatū River has opened up the popular recreation area, although the connection has fallen victim to Palmerston North’s shortage of tradespeople. The new entrance to the river pathway, near He Ara Kotahi bridge, is a vast improvement on the former shingle stairway surrounded by low-hanging foliage. Throughout winter access to the river from the southern end of the Esplanade was through bush tracks. City council parks and reserves manager Kathy Dever Tod said the cost of the project was just over $400,000.
