The new gas prices have come into effect from Thursday, a day after the Supreme Court stayed a High Court order that halted the government’s decision for raising gas prices for all consumers for six months. Households will now have to pay Tk900 for single burners and Tk950 for double burners. On February 23, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) hiked gas prices by a weighted average of 22.7%. From March, the monthly gas bill for single burners rose to Tk750 from Tk600 and double burners cost Tk800, up from Tk650. Before that, gas price was last raised in September 2015.
