New catch limits for top of the South fisheries - News Summed Up

New catch limits for top of the South fisheries

New sustainability levels for selected fish stocks have been issued by Fisheries Minister Stuart Nash, set to come into effect on Tuesday. Gurnard, john dory, and rig were at or above target levels for stock numbers in the top of the south, so commercial catch allowances were increased. Ling and gemfish were also above management targets, and total commercial catch was increased. Hoki numbers were also down, possibly below management targets, so the total commercial catch allowance was decreased from 150,000 tons to 115,000 tons. The new limits followed a consultation period on selected fish stocks through Fisheries New Zealand.
