New Zealand's Afghanistan decision imminent, no signal US wants more NZ troopsRoss Giblin Prime Minister Bill English says Cabinet is due to make a decision before the election, on whether or not to send two support personnel to Afghanistan. A decision on whether to send a small amount of additional troops to Afghanistan is expected to be made before the election, Prime Minister Bill English has confirmed. The 10 troops currently in Afghanistan are based in Kabul at the Afghan National Army Officer Academy. English confirmed a decision was expected to be made within weeks, but he said no decision on combat would be taken before the election for democratic reasons. "That's not what we've been asked for, and any decision of that nature of course we'd wait for after the election," English said.
