The New Zealand men’s rowing eight have landed a big psychological blow two days out from their crunch Olympic qualifying race. They will just be hoping their opponents weren’t foxing with them and keeping their powder dry. Romania went on to finish second in 5:39.13, with China (5:47.07) and Italy (5:50.71) well back. The NZ eight features three rowers – Brake, Kirkham and Murray – who were part of the crew which finished sixth at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
