New Zealand hereford beef a hit in GermanyJohn Bisset Hereford beef is in great demand in Germany thanks to New Zealand's grass fed outdoor farming system. German consumers are taking a liking to New Zealand hereford beef, with demand growing in a market traditionally dominated by pork and poultry. For the past few years, Klughardt has imported hereford beef from SFF as a marketing initiative to try and differentiate a beef product from the large quantities of South American beef entering Germany. The hereford beef gave Klughardt a programme to explain to consumers the farmer's story, the emphasis on animal welfare and the way cattle were grown. Gerald Piddock travelled to Germany with funding from the New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists, Silver Fern Farms and Deer Industry New Zealand.
