Five men, who have dedicated years to the country's trucking industry, have been inducted in to the New Zealand Road Transport Hall of Fame. Hargreaves, of Dannevirke, took over his father's trucking business and developed the company and purchased Lindsay Drummond's company and then Dannevirke Transport. Abbot, of Opotiki, started working in the trucking industry after he developed a friendship with a man who worked for Ron Smith Ltd, a local carrier. While he completed a motor mechanic apprenticeship he left and became a driver for Ron Smith Ltd. In 1951, Abbot purchased shares in Ron Smith Ltd, becoming the third shareholder along with Ron Smith and Des Lysaght.
