A meme created by the New Conservative party for New Plymouth candidate Murray Chong was posted to Facebook but later taken down. A controversial councillor has been condemned by a Māori Party co-leader over a social media poster comparing him with historical leaders Martin Luther King Junior, Nelson Mandela and Abraham Lincoln. Chong is the New Plymouth candidate for the New Conservative party. Despite Chong’s denial he had anything to do with the poster, Māori Party co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer labelled the New Plymouth district councillor racist and delusional.
