A news release says a toxicology report revealed furanyl fentanyl was found in the system of a person who died recently in northern New Brunswick. FREDERICTON—New Brunswick’s chief medical officer is warning the public about the presence of furanyl fentanyl in the province following a recent death. Chief medical officer of health Jennifer Russell says she is concerned that the death could be an early indicator that furanyl fentanyl is available in the province. The government says there were six apparent opioid deaths in the province in the first quarter of 2018, five of which were accidental or with “pending intent.”In 2017, there were 36 apparent opioid deaths in New Brunswick, seven of which were directly related to fentanyl or fentanyl analogs.
