Manchester United chiefs were initially on the hunt for senior member of staff to take control of of certain playing matters, including signings policy and who is in the dugout, but have now moved away from putting someone in the traditional director role. Many have argued, however, that United need a figure to help oversee recruitment and this was tentatively the plan for the club.
