Nelson firefighters ventilate smoke-filled house

Firefighters responded to reports of a smoke-filled house in Nelson on Thursday evening. (File photograph)Firefighters cleared smoke from Nelson house on Thursday evening after the home ventilation system spread it throughout the property. Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Andrew Norris said firefighters were called about 5.55pm to reports of a smoke-filled house at Renwick Place. It appeared the home ventilation system had transferred the smoke from a log burner throughout the house, so firefighters helped to ventilate the property, Norris said. Pilot Brendan Hiatt said the chopper was in the air again about 1am on Friday, to make a medical transfer from Motueka to Nelson Hospital.
