We are at the Spooners Tunnel, part of Nelson Tasman’s Great Taste Trail which is an extensive cycle loop taking in Nelson, Motueka, Wakefield, Richmond and Kaiteriteri. For years the tunnel was opened once a month for locals to experience but it is now open 24/7 and has become the standout attraction of the Great Taste Trail. We make our way around the island, following the Great Taste Trail signs – which make the journey easy to navigate – before reaching a ferry crossing.
