The Nelson Centre for Musical Arts (NCMA) has been given a more than $600,000 loan by the council, as it faces a funding shortfall for its redevelopment. The music school's $900,000 shortfall was recently made public, and a decision about offering the school a loan was debated by councillors in a public-excluded meeting at the Nelson City Council on Friday. Mayor Rachel Reese said in a statement the Nelson School of Music was "part of this city's proud heritage". "As an organisation, we truly appreciate that Nelson City Council has taken the lead in providing the short-term support we need.
